Ice Cold Cat
Somewhere in Florida

So I don’t remember the exact location of this photo, but it was on the way back to Columbia from a weekend in the Tampa area with a girlfriend. We had turned off onto a fairly deserted exit to explore and to my recollection, the road we turned on led to a sort of cul-de-sac and there wasn’t much there except a real estate office, a dilapidated and unused general store and this Coke® machine out in front of the real estate office. Of course, I felt like we hit the jackpot with this non-functioning machine just out in the middle of nowhere and insisted we get out to take a picture. As we approached this miraculous find, the cat crawled out of the dispenser opening! It had been napping in there and crawled out, sat down and I caught it in mid-yawn, which made it a far better photograph. It is definitely one of my favorites and has been one of my most requested images.

I’ve never been able to settle on what I should name this image. I’ve called it, “Ice Col,” “Coke Cat,” Or its current title of “Ice Cold Cat.” Recently, however, an old Coca-Cola® slogan popped in my head, and although it would make for a rather lengthy title, it made me laugh because it sums up the experience: “Things go better with…a cat.” What would you name it?
